Gospel Advancement Leadership Initiative Condemns Killing of Christian Girl in Sokoto

Daily Rendezvous
The Gospel Advancement, Leadership Initiative(GALI) condemn in strong terms the gruesome murder of Deborah Yakubu, a 200 level student of Economics at the Shehu Shagari College of Education Sokoto on account of religious intolerance.
We view this act of callousness and barbarism as unbecoming of students of a higher institution in Nigeria.

Freedom of religion is a right enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999. Arising from the foregoing, no state is allowed to create a state religion. Citizens of this country are free to reside in any part of this Country and practice their religion without fear.

Regrettably, the unchallenged gruesome murder of Deborah Yakubu goes to show that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a mere official window dressing document. To state that security operatives of the Shehu Shagari College of Education Sokoto were overpowered by the mob is purile, infantile and incapable of being believed. We are confident that investigation would unravel the accuracy and veracity of what transpired.

We wish to state categorically that the killing of Deborah is totally unacceptable and unless authorities concerned take immediate steps at arresting and prosecuting the perpetrators of this dastardly act, we will assume that this is the right way to go and would have no other option than to take the laws into our hands.

May we also put it on record that this is not the first time Christians are attacked and killed on account of blasphemy. This is becoming the norm particularly in the Northern part of the Country where religious extremism strife. The fact that this evil has continued unabated is a clear demonstration of government's  inability to provide punishment for crime.

The action of this marauding beast has the potential of balcanizing the already fragile peace being enjoyed in the Country. It is therefore imperative to underscore the need for our leaders to be resolute in correcting this immoral callousness in our society.

Our leaders must eschew  all pirochial,  political and  religious interest and find a lasting solution to this problem as we are tired of seeing our youth being killed on account of religion.

A stitch in time saves nine.
