SUDAN EBOLA VIRUS: 53 Dead, 136 Confirmed Cases, 21 Probable Cases - WHO Issues Safety Guidelines

Daily Rendezvous  Description of the outbreak From when the outbreak was declared on 20 September until 7 November, a total of 136 confirmed cases, 21 probable cases, and 53 confirmed deaths (CFR 38.9%) from Ebola disease caused by the  Sudan ebolavirus  (SUDV) have been reported, representing an increase of 18% and 66% respectively since the last  DON  published on 28 October 2022. In addition, 21 probable deaths have been also reported since the beginning of the outbreak, with the last probable death notified on 29 September. Three additional cases and three additional deaths have been reported among healthcare workers since 28 October, resulting in a total of 18 cases and seven deaths among these workers. NCDC Issues Public Health Guidelines Over Ebola Outbreak

Daily Rendezvous Public Health Advisory following declaration of Ebola Virus Disease Outbreak in Uganda  The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has been aware of the ongoing outbreak of the Sudan strain Ebola virus disease (EVD) in Uganda since it was first officially declared on 20th September 2022. As of 29th October 2022, the Uganda Ministry of Health had reported 128 confirmed cases and 34 deaths.    The NCDC, through the National Emerging Viral Haemorrhagic Disease Technical Working Group, met on the 26th of September 2022 to assess the risk of importation of EVD to Nigeria and the potential impact to inform in-country preparedness activities. Based on available data and risk assessment conducted, Nigeria is at HIGH risk of importation of the virus.
