POLITICS OF DESPERATION OR FRUSTRATION
POLITICS OF DESPERATION OR FRUSTRATION
By Martins Yanatham Dickson
Adamawa State has been adjudged a politically active state full of gladiators at the National and international political landscape, there is no political dispensation and regime that has not produced the sons and daughters of Adamawa at the national level in Nigeria and not just those who occupy political space as quota system bench warmers but active and influential political players.
Therefore, one will averagely appreciate the intense competition when it comes to hustling and jostling for power or political offices.
One of the very disappointing aspects of this great opportunity that Adamawa State has is that, its numerous sons and daughters playing politics and clinching highly revered political offices have not been able to attract commiserate level of development and provision of basic amenities to the Adamawa people, this, everyone on the street agrees is very disheartening. From Toungo to Madagali, Shelleng to Fufore the story is the same until the advent of the present administration when things began to change and a positive story been rewritten about Adamawa by the present state Governor, Senator Muhammed Umaru Jibrilla Bindow.
There is a popular saying which many agree to, that a good and wise coach does not change a winning team. Little wonder then that the president of the federal republic of Nigeria and commander in chief of the armed forces decided to advise strongly that even though the tenure of the present executive members of the All Progressives Congress APC, from ward level to the national level will end and elections conducted, waiver should be given to present office holders for them to aspire to the offices they occupy should they be interested. This in his wisdom will entrench continuity and further strengthen the party, thank God, the National working committee of the APC agreed to these and granted waiver to all executives of the party across the federation.
But the Adamawa phenomenon is once again raising its ugly head where some political leaders are deliberately working against the unity and progress of the party in the state by vehemently insisting on installing their stooges in the executive of the party, with a sinister motive of ousting the sitting Governor come 2019 (so they imagine anyway). This is selfishness taken too far. It is indeed an insult on the intelligence of party faithfuls and Adamawa citizens who all agree that the present administration is performing above average and should be encouraged.
In his wisdom and humility, Senator Bindow decided to be a true democrat by allowing free, fair, open and credible ward congresses across the state. This is the reason why the governor and other stakeholders agreed to a 24 hour shift in the date of the congress to allow those agitating for more time to have time as they requested. Everyone who monitored and observed the Sunday 6th May APC ward congresses in the state testified that it was free fair and credible. But alas, they refused to accept the verdict of the people and decided to mobilize a kangaroo protest against a widely accepted ward congress. There is no Congress and election that has no hitches but you cannot throw away the baby with the bath water. Especially where these hitches are negligible.
They have continuously made provocative statements, inciting and instigating their gullible followers against the Government of the day. There is nothing done by the present Government that they appreciate. Despite the fact that records have shown clearly that the achievements of the Jibrilla Bindow led administration has surpassed that of any administration before it, this is without mincing words.
What is wrong in accepting the verdict of a congress where popular ward executives emerge as officials? It was the option A4 system that was deployed with people standing behind their preferred candidates and been counted in broad daylight.
In many of the wards, the attendance of the ward congresses was so massive that you will think it's the general election, Jambutu ward a suburb of the state capital saw a candidate polling up to 16,000 votes.
The people of Adamawa and members of the All Progressives Congress need to know that all of the people shouting foul are hiding under some sinister motives geared towards derailing the good governance Adamawa has enjoyed in the last 3 years.
The Senator Bindow led administration and the APC in the state have shown and proved beyond any doubt that they can be trusted with leadership and need to be supported.
The open door policy run by the government and the fairness in the state APC should be sustained and encouraged.
