Daily Rendezvous
The chairman of Lamurde local government council, Burto Williams, has directed that every Fulani herdsman that came into the Numan community without permission should immediately vacate the area and return to their place of origin, until the protocol agreed upon for a mutually respectful farming and grazing activities are observed.

Burto explained that at a recent security meeting held at Numan, Demsa and Lamurde, an agreement was reached that herders coming into the Numan community must liase with the local Fulani leaders in order to obtain permission to carry out their activities in peace in the area.

Burto Williams made the remarks at an emergency security meeting held over at Lamurde local government, Adamawa state.

Burto said, "We have already set an established protocol in order to sustain the peaceful co-existence among all the ethnic nationalities within the Numan zone.

"The Fulanis have representatives in all our local governments and communities and it is only appropriate that when some herders are coming from somewhere, that they cooperate with their leaders.

"The objectives were mutually agreed that the measure would go along way in ensuring a lasting peace and forestall any possible breach of peace.

"First of all, we will be able to know who came in and why and that there are dry season farming activities ongoing across the area, and we will be able to ensure that the farmers crops are not encroached into and the herders rights are not infringed upon.

"Hence, all herders who came in without the permission of the traditional council as agreed should return to where they came from until proper permission is observed and all laid down protocols established are followed."

The Fulanis leaders at the meeting took full responsibility for the breach of protocol and the influx of herders into the area without observing the laid down agreement that they were party to.
At the close of the meeting, all parties resolved that a recourse to the laid down procedure was necessary in order to sustain the lasting peace in the area.
