NO WHERE TO HIDE FOR SMUGGLERS- ADAMAWA CUSTOM BOSS SAYS

The Comptroller of Customs in charge of Adamawa and Taraba, Francis Adetoye, has praised the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali, for taking a tough stance against smuggling and other illegal trades militating the growth of the countries economy, saying the comptrollers general's hard line position has made the activities of smugglers an unpopular line of trade in the country.
Francis Adetoye said, smuggling is an act of national sabotage hemorrhaging life from the country's economy and stopping it is critical to national development.
Francis Adetoye made the remarks Thursday, while addressing Newsmen, in Yola, Adamawa.
Adetoye said, "Smuggling is not a trade anyone should be proud of because it is an illicit activity fighting agaisnt the growth of country's economy.
"Our command under the watch of Col. Hameed Ali, has been able to curtail and reduce smuggling activities within Adamawa and Taraba significantly, leading to a record low level of smuggling activities in the area."
Mr. Francis Adetoye said, "The zero tolerance of the custom boss has send shivers to smugglers all over the country making them understand that there is no where to hide and that they cannot maneuver their way from justice."
He explained that if smugglers cannot influence the head, their only option would be to abandon their illicit trade.
Adetoye said, "The goal of president Buhari led government is to grow and strengthen local economy to compete with other economies around the world.
"That can only be achieved if we give our local farmers the chance to farm, grow and market their crops and that is what smuggling is against."
He praised the effort of Gov. Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla of Adamaw and Darius Ishaku of Taraba, for supporting the service to carry out it activities without interference which has made work easier for the service.
Speaking on the revenue generation effort of the service, he said the Adamawa and Taraba command have been able to generate about N48 million naira from January to March 2018 from food crops which is the only source of revenue in the area and that the command has also made a seizure of about 55 elephant tusks valued at about N50 million naira.
He said the command looks forward to trading activities picking up as the raining season returns.
He also attributed the command's success to a harmonious working relationship with sister security operatives in the state and the support enjoyed from the traditional institutions.
