YEDC Nears Completion of Major Network Upgrade to Boost Power Supply Across Franchise Areas

Daily Rendezvous- Yola, December 16, 2025
The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has announced the near-completion of a major network upgrade project aimed at improving electricity supply, reducing outages, and enhancing overall service delivery across its franchise areas.

The large-scale infrastructure upgrade, which is being executed in phases, represents a strategic investment by YEDC to strengthen its distribution network and deliver more stable, reliable, and efficient power to households and businesses.

According to the company, the project involves the replacement of aging recline cables, rehabilitation of faulty transformers, and the upgrade of critical distribution infrastructure. These improvements are designed to minimise feeder faults, reduce downtime, and significantly improve network resilience.

Key components of the upgrade include the installation of high-capacity transformers to enhance distribution efficiency, the deployment of advanced metering infrastructure to improve billing accuracy and reduce technical losses, and the upgrading of distribution lines and poles to improve voltage stability and reduce fault incidents.

YEDC acknowledged that the accelerated pace of the rehabilitation works may result in temporary power interruptions in some areas. However, the company assured customers that the short-term inconveniences are necessary to ensure faster project completion and long-term service improvements.

Speaking on the project, YEDC’s Communications Officer, Blessing Tunoh, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to quality service delivery.

“We are committed to delivering high-quality electricity services to our customers. This network upgrade demonstrates our dedication to investing in infrastructure that supports economic growth and improves the quality of life for our customers. Customers should please bear with us during this rehabilitation, as they are about to smile,” she said.

Tunoh disclosed that the ongoing rehabilitation represents the first phase of the upgrade project and is on track for completion by December 20, 2025, ahead of the initial schedule.

Upon completion, the upgraded network is expected to deliver improved power stability, fewer outages, and increased customer satisfaction across YEDC’s service areas.

The company expressed appreciation to its customers for their patience and cooperation during the rehabilitation period, assuring them of enhanced electricity services in the coming days.
