RETRACT, CEASE, DESIST OR FACE CONSEQUENCES – DUHU FIRES LEGAL WARNING OVER FACEBOOK ATTACK ON GOV. FINTIRI

YOLA, Adamawa State – June 21, 2026

A prominent stakeholder and legal practitioner, Dr. Umar D. Duhu, has issued a stern warning to Prince Mohammed over what he described as a defamatory and provocative Facebook publication against Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, demanding an immediate retraction, cessation of further attacks, and a public apology or risk facing legal and political consequences.

In a strongly worded letter titled "Demand for Retraction and Cease & Desist," Duhu accused Prince Mohammed of publishing falsehoods, making reckless allegations, and attempting to undermine the reputation and authority of the Governor of Adamawa State through a letter posted on social media on June 20, 2026.

Duhu described as "baseless, malicious and defamatory" claims that Governor Fintiri was "a mere visitor" and allegations that he displayed arrogance and humiliated people during a recent visit to Mubi.

According to him, such statements are not only damaging to the Governor's reputation but may also expose their author to serious legal liabilities under Nigerian law.

"The Governor occupies a constitutionally recognized office and political disagreement does not grant anyone the licence to publish injurious falsehoods or engage in character assassination," Duhu stated.

He further argued that portions of the publication which suggested that Governor Fintiri would no longer be able to accomplish anything politically in the zone amounted to intimidation, threats, and conduct capable of provoking unrest.

The legal practitioner warned that the publication could attract both civil and criminal scrutiny, including potential actions relating to defamation, criminal libel, cyber-related offences, and conduct likely to disturb public peace.

Duhu also raised questions about party loyalty, insisting that no political party can function effectively where members openly attack leaders and candidates while expecting to remain insulated from disciplinary measures.

He maintained that party supremacy and loyalty remain essential principles in democratic politics and suggested that the conduct complained of may warrant examination by relevant party disciplinary organs.

In what appeared to be the strongest section of his response, Duhu demanded an immediate and unconditional retraction of the statements, warning that failure to do so could trigger the pursuit of all lawful remedies available.

"Retract. Cease. Desist. Or be prepared to face the consequences of your actions," the letter warned.

The development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing political exchanges surrounding Adamawa's evolving political landscape, with observers noting that the intensity of rhetoric among political actors is increasing as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

At the time of this report, Prince Mohammed had not issued any public response to the allegations or the demands contained in Duhu's letter.

The confrontation is expected to generate further debate within political circles, particularly regarding the limits of political criticism, freedom of expression, and responsibility in public discourse.
