As 2019 draws inches nearer, the federal government has taken the fight to Atiku by flagging off the construction of N22.7 billion, 112 kilometers Mayo Belwa, Jada, Ganye and Toungo road in Adamawa state.

The road project which was flagged off by the minister of works, power and housing, Babatunde Fashola who was represented by the minister of power, works and housing 1, Mustapha Baba Shehuri, will cost the FG about N22.7 billion and would be completed within 36 months.

Fashola said, the road project is in furtherance of the commitment of president Muhammadu Buhari's administration to address the infrastructural deficit in the country which is aimed at providing the much needed impetus to stimulate economic growth and the ease of doing business.

Fashola made the remarks Saturday, in Mayo Belwa, Adamawa state.

Fashola said the road if completed, "Is expected to tremendously improve the socio-economic wellbeing of the people, generate employment opportunities for both skilled and skilled labour and help in the fight against armed robbery, kidnapping and other forms of crime prevalent within this alignment."

The minister lamented that the road has outlived its service life and is characterized with several failed sections, potholes, multiple cracks, depression and washouts at the edges at different sections of the existing alignment and it has become imperative that it is constructed.

Speaking at the occasion, the Secretary to the government of the federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha, took a dig at the former vice president Atiku Abubakar saying, "The Mayo Belwa to Toungo road has suffered years of serious neglect from successive governments even at the time when indigenes of the area were in power as vice president and the national chairman man of the ruling party in the country."

The SGF said, Buhari is committed to revamping infrastructure in the country in order to strengthen and boost the country's local economy.

He called on the community to throw the weight of their votes Behind president Buhari in order to continue to enjoy the benefit of good governance.

The Adamawa state governor, Muhammed Umaru Jibrilla said, president Muhammadu Buhari must be commended for addressing infrastructural deficits in the country saying the project will go a long way in bring a lot of ease to the people of the state.

"Everyone in the north east have a reason to support Buhari because besides restoring peace to the region, he has also approved several road projects that would transform economic activities in the state and it's surrounding environment."

The member representing Mayo Belwa, Jada, Ganye and Toungo in the federal house of Representatives, Abdulrazak Namdas, said the road was part of his promise to his constituency and was glad that it has come to pass.

Namdas said, "President Muhammadu Buhari has kept the promise of APC to the people his constituency and come 2019, the votes of the area would go for Buhari."

The paramount ruler of Ganye chiefdom, Umaru Adamu Sanda, lauds the president for coming to the aid of his people by awarding the road for construction.

The ruler notes that the road which has been a death trap for his people has caused deaths, accidents and have had negative impact on the lives and economy of the people of the area.

The road when completed, would serve as a major link between Adamawa state and Taraba and the republic of Cameroun. The road will also connect to the Mambila hydro power plant, the Gashaka Gumti national park and several agricultural communities in the state.
