Adamawa 2019: Caretaker Committee to Supervise Adamawa Primaries as NWC Suspends Adamawa APC Excos

By Billy Graham Abel Yola

The National Working Committee, NWC, of the APC has suspended the Adamawa State Executives Committee, of the APC in Adamawa, following allegations from Babachir's led divide of the party, over the bias decision of the state committee to support the incumbent governor, Muhammed Umaru Jibrilla against other aspirants in the 29th September, primaries elections, Daily Sun confirms.

Babachir said, the suspension was effected by the NWC in order to create a level playing field for all contestants, prevent impunity and imposition of unpopular candidates in the party and to ensure the emergence of credible candidates that would clinch victory for the party in 2019 elections.

Babachir made the remarks at the joint press briefing by the Mahmood Halilu and Nuhu Ribadu campaign groups, in Yola, Adamawa state.

Babachir said, the decision of the NWC has lead to the establishment of a six-man Caretaker Committee to conduct the primaries of the party with each of the three aspirants nominating two members of the committee.

The national working committee has however maintained that Adamawa state will hold its primaries through indirect primaries.

The former SGF commended the NWC for taking the decision which he said would redeem the party's image in the state and ensure its victory in the forth coming elections in the state.

Babachir said, "First of all, the National Working Committee and the National Chairman have demonstrated that they're people of integrity.

"They know that impunity has brought down political parties, with the PDP as a ready example.

"Our overall goal is not the primaries but winning elections. We have to produce candidates at all levels that would win elections, so that all the right members of the house of representatives, the three senators and the 25 members of the house of assembly are from the APC, and that can only happen if there is no impunity or fielding of unpopular candidates."

When contacted on the suspension of the state executive committee, the state organising secretary of the party, Ahmed Lawan, insisted that, “I’m only aware of a directive from the National Secretariat to suspend us, we were only not allowed to participate in the forthcoming primaries."

The decision of the  NWC has already tilted the 29th September Adamawa Primaries in favour of the Babachir's side of the party as four of the six members ad-hoc committee will be drawn from the two aspirants of Mahmood and Ribadu, leaving the incumbent with just two members in the committee.

The sun gathered that there are plans to deploy security personnel to seal the Adamawa APC State Secretariat, in order to prevent the suspended State EXCOs from meddling in the elections.
