Adamawa 2019: Modi Takes Campaign to Southern Adamawa

-Promises to End Bloodletting and years of Unkept Promises

By Billy Graham Abel Yola

Younger brother to the president's wife, Mahmood Halilu Ahmed, has taken his gubernatorial bid to Southern Adamawa, promising to halt bloodletting and reverse three years of unkept promises by the governor Muhammed Umaru Jibrilla government.

Mahmood Halilu, well known as Modi by his admirers, while addressing crowd of supporters from the nine local governments in the southern zone of the state in Demsa and  Mayo Belwa, dared to venture into the highly volatile issue of the relentless killings in the area that has left thousand homeless and impoverished many saying only a mindless politician will be able to sleep and fly to Abuja, while lives and property of his people are destroyed.

He told the delegates in the southern zone that it is only in Adamawa state, of all the states in the country controlled by APC, that grassroots politicians like the delegates have not enjoyed the benefits of their hard work in ensuring victory of the party in the 2015 elections.

He said, "I am a man of my words, I am a party person and I will restore party loyalty and dignity.

"You have suffered for this party and no one should treat you like beggars.

"It is so sad that we have a government that is led by selfish and self centered people who have refused to sensibly award contracts to indigenes and politicians who have worked hard to establish the the government."

Modi explained that politicians must be people of impeachable character and integrity and should be able to make promises and stay true to their words and person.

He lamented that the people of the state and especially the zone have been deprived of the progress that the world is enjoying and that his leadership would reverse the ugly trend and restore the dignity of human life.

Speaking at the occasion, one of the elders in his campaign train and the runner up in the 2015 gubernatorial elections, Markus Gundiri, criticised the government of Muhammed Umaru Jibrilla, for failing to halt the incessant killings in the area saying it is the responsibility of the government to protect lives and property.

He challenged the people of the area to throw the weight of their support behind Modi's candidacy in order to end the reckless and merciless reign of governor Bindow in the state.

The upside to the Modi movement is that his campaign train has been able to broach on a highly contestable topic of incessant herders attack on the Numan community and Usher in an issue based campaign, which will be the first step to healing the wounds, bitterness and disaffection caused by the killings and wanton destruction in the area.

The campaign has undoubtedly opened a vista of discourse surrounding security and the welfare of the people in the area with a view to preferring a lasting solution to the crisis and prosperity.

The narrative floated by Markus Gundiri, is a slap on face of the incumbent and the government of Muhammed Umaru Jibrilla, which has refused to address the issue or raise alarm over the constant attacks, a posture which made the Bindow government looks incompetent and lacked ideas to addressing the state's problems.
