Breaking: President Buhari's In-law Joins Adamawa Guber contest

By Billy Graham Abel Yola

Mahmoud Halilu Ahmed (Modi), a younger brother to Aisha Buhari has joined the race to challenge governor Jibrilla Bindow for the 2019 APC ticket in Adamawa state.

Modi made his intentions to run known in a letter submitted to the state party executives and made available to Newsmen, Wednesday.

Mahmoud in his letter said he would be joining the contest to address the challenges of the general wellbeing of the people of the state and his leadership would improve the quality of life and governance in the state.

Mahmoud Halilu said, "I am proposing to have a formal declaration of my candidacy as a Gubernatorial Aspirant of the APC on the 10th of September, 2018 at 12 noon in Yola.

"Following the desire of our great party to open the political space for mass participation and our great party's effort to offer a level playing field for free, fair and credible elections, I wish to formally inform you of my intention to contest for the office of the Executive Governor of Adamawa State in the 2019 General Elections under APC."

Explaining why he wants the gubernatorial seat of Adamawa, Mahmoud said he has the, "Patriotism to tackle the challenges facing the state, including the General wellbeing of the people of Adamawa state.

Mahmood Halilu's entrance into Adamawa gubernatorial contest has dynamically altered the political landscape of the ruling party in the state and his candidacy will provide a litmus test for the already embattled Adamawa APC as to its claim to internal democracy.

Modi's declaration of aspiration will once again bring to the fore the credibility of the recently controversial Boss Mustapha led state executive committee endorsement of an indirect primaries, which critics within the party say has failed to capture other gubernatorial aspirants like Nuhu Ribadu, Buba Marwa, Markus Gundiri and now Mahmoud Halilu.

And on the national front, his aspiration would, put to test the leadership strength of the earstwhile labour leader turned politician, Adams Oshiomhole, for offering a blank check to his former colleagues as to whether to be nominated through direct, indirect primaries or consensus running into the 2019 elections.
