Nigeria at 60: Let's Focus on the Little Things That Matters-Yusuf Buba

Daily Rendezvous
The Chairman, Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives and Member representing Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency, Yusuf Buba Yakub, has called on Nigerians to celebrate the independence day with hope and optimism that though the country is yet to get to its desired destination, yet, the Nigeria of our dreams is possible.

Buba called on Nigerians all over the country to hold unto those things that unite us as a people instead of those things that divide us.

Buba said that, despite the daunting challenges of the global pandemic, schools have began to open gradually, businesses and social activities are gradually picking up, and that in the same vein, Nigeria will achieve its dream and true potential inspite of its challenges, but we all have to keep faith and work towards building a greater and stronger country.

Yusuf Buba made the remarks in a statement issued by his special adviser on media and publicity, Nkem Anyata-Lafiya, and made available to Newsmen, Thursday.

Yusuf Buba urged Nigerians to celebrate the occasion in the knowledge and belief that having ruled ourselves in the last sixty years as one people, united by a common destiny and goal, we have undoubtedly made giant strides certain areas in our march towards nationhood and that it would take our collective efforts and coorperation to get to our desired destination.

He notes with concern, that as a nation, we might not be where we should be after 60 years but we will certainly getting there.

Buba said, "Let us demonstrate love and respect for one another in this occasion through the exchange of gifts and goodwill messages because in a nation blessed with diversity like ours, every occasion for celebration like this, deserves to be accompanied by the renewal of such bond of love and friendship by reminding ourselves of "The Little Things That Matters."

Expressing optimism in the future of Nigeria, he notes that, "Despite the fact that Nigeria and the world at large, has witnessed one of the most ravaging pandemic in a year that has been characterised by unusual lockdowns, quarantine and even the loss of loved ones, there is hope that everything will gradually get better."

He added that, "This hope is evidenced in the gradual return of our children and wards to school, resumption of official duties, gradual increase and expansion in economic activities accompanied by the drastic reduction in the rate of infection of the pandemic itself across the nation.

"Let us all support and demonstrate strong confidence in our leaders at the various rungs of the societal ladder, because it is only by so doing that the vision of a better Nigeria can collectively be realised."

The chairman house committee on Foreign Affairs while wishing all Nigerians a happy 60th Indepedence Day celebration, also called on the general public to continue to observe the safety measures against the spread of the COVID-19 disease and to continue to observe all safety protocols outlined by the nation health authorities in order to remain safe and free of the disease.
