The Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has proscribed the activities of Professional Hunters Association of Nigeria, banning their activities in the 21 local governments of Adamawa state over security concerns the group is reported to have been causing.

Fintiri said, the Hunters Association has been working contrary to the essence of its creation, as the group is reported to have been showing total disregard for security agencies and for traditional authorities in their localities.

This is contained in a press statement issued by the press secretary to the Adamawa state governor, Humwashi Wonosikou, and made available to Newsmen, Monday in Yola, Adamawa state.

The statement further states that security operatives should ensure compliance of the directives especially in the five Adamawa state local governments of Numan, Demsa, Lamurde, Shelleng and Guyuk.
The statement reads, "The Adamawa State Government has banned the operations of the Professional Hunters Association of Nigeria across the 21 Local Government areas of the State, especially in Demsa, Numan, Lamurde,  Guyuk and Shelleng.

"This follows reports of abuse of the rules of engagement and lack of regard to the traditional institution and security agencies.

"The operations and activities of the association in the five Local Governments has become a source of concern and insecurity instead of the security it is fasRthioned to provide," Gov. Fintiri said.

The statement further adds that, "The Governor notes that activities of the Professional Hunters Association was capable of causing it to public disturbance and henceforth should desist from performing any function under the guise of providing security to the public.

"More worrisome is the fact that the association operates independent of any security organisation in the five Local Government areas, thereby giving room for suspicions the state chairman of their motive and intentions especially that they operate in uniforms of our security agencies and at odd hours."

While emphasising that security is everybody's business, Governor Fintiri  however said, "No group or anybody will be allowed to take the Law into their hands, disrespect to security agencies Ii and the traditional institution.

Gov. Fintiri, "Therefore directs security agencies to ensure that the proscribed Professional Hunters Association adhere to the  decision as Government will not fold its arms and watch criminals have their way.

"I urge security agencies and the traditional institution to collaborate and ensure that peace is maintained across the State before, during and after the Yuletide and new year festivities."
