2023: PDP Jettison Zoning Presidency, Flings Race Open to All Zones
Daily Rendezvous
Reprots ftom party sources suggests that the main opposition party in Nigeria, PDP, has abandoned the idea of zoning its presidential ticket to any zone in the country.
Feelers from the 37-man zoning committee's meeting suggest that the party is more focused on gaining power than dabbling into issue of which zone the presidential candidates comes from.
PDP seems to be in a strong point to grapple power from the ruling APC come 2023 as APC has been entangled in a maze of multiple economic and security hassles.
It could be recalled that PDP under former president Goodluck Jonathan lost power to the APC under a similar clouds of heavy security questions and economic challenges, but those same issues seems to have been exercebated under the ruling APC seven years on.
So far, PDP has an array of big wigs gunning for its presidential tickets. They include: former vice president Atiku Abubakar, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, Gov. Bala Mohammed, Gov. Nyesome Wike, former vice presidential aspirants of the PDP, Peter Obi, among others.
The question on most Nigerians mind is whether the decision to open the presidential ticket to all by the PDP is a political strategy or a result of an impasse by the 37-man zoning committee?
