BREAKING: ASUU Strike Continues As Meeting With Buhari’s Govt. Ends in a Deadlock

Again, the Buhari-led APC government continues to show its lack of capacity and interest in Education as its meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Universities ends in a disappointing deadlock.

According to sources within the negotiating team, the government team didn't really come with any new offer but came pleading that ASUU's demands will be captured in the the 2023 Budget 

Multiple sources report that, the meeting between the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari has once again ended in an impasse.

Recall the federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari scheduled to meet with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), today, Tuesday, August 16, 2022 over its prolonged strike.

The ongoing ASUU strike began on February 14, 2022, before the Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities, and Allied Educational Institutions (NASU) National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) entered its 183rd day today, August 16, 2022.
Some of the things the union is agitating for include; the release of revitalisation funds for universities, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, release of earned allowances for university lecturers, and deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution.

However, the striking lecturers had met with Professor Nimi Briggs Committee today at the National University Commission in Abuja with high hopes of resolving the impasse.

This means the six-month old strike by public university lecturers is set to continue.

A senior member of ASUU, who craved anonymity told Channels Television that members of the Briggs renegotiation committee did not come with any new offer on the table.

Instead, the ASUU source said, the committee plead with the lecturers to suspend the ongoing strike, with promises that their concerns will be included in the 2023 budget.

According to the source, the meeting, which started at about 12pm, lasted for about three hours without any agreement reached.
