YOWICAN Stands Against Vote Buying -Godwin Joseph

The President of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) YOWICAN, Bro. Godwin Joseph, has denied endorsing the candidate of the APC, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Bunani, as claimed in a publication.

Godwin said, CAN or any of its related bodies does not exchange endorsement for gifts as the publication vainly eleborated and YOWICAN cannot will not participate in acts that amounted to vote buying.

The YOWICAN leader said the public should steer clear of opportunists who go about with the name of CAN or any other religious body the swindle unsuspecting members of the public.

Bro Godwin Joseph said, "The attentions of the leadership of the youth wing chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, YOWICAN, has been drawn to a  publication captioned, "Clash of interest over Guber Candidates Rocks Adamawa CAN as Youwican endorses Binani and Dami prefers Fintiri" published by an online publication claiming that there is a rift between the youth wing of CAN and its parent body, CAN.

"The leadership of YOWICAN denounced this publication and had nothing to do with it. The public should consider it a satanic fabrication, malicious lies in its intent and purpose and the public should consider it a design by some manipulators to cause disaffection among the Christian community in Adamawa state.

"YOWICAN, under the leadership of Godwin Joseph, calls on the Christian community and indeed the general public to disregard the so- called statement as an act of some political jobbers attempting to curry some political favours for themselves in the name of CAN.

"The Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN) has remained a very strong and united family under the inspirational leadership of Bishop Dami Steven Mamza in defending the interest of Christians and Christianity in the state and in strengthening good Governance and political institutions in the state. 

"There has never been any situation or circumstance under which the youth wing of CAN has ever distanced itself from the position of its parent body or even opposed the directives of CAN."

The statement adds that, "YOWICAN cautions the public, especially this political season, to guard themselves against criminals and imposters who parade themselves as christian leaders or bodies, to deceive unsuspecting members of the public to achieve their criminal intent.

"CAN emphatically denounce in totallity the so-called members and leaders of "YOWICAN" and denies any knowledge of any of them or their activities with its so-called leader as related to CAN.

"If any member of public is in any doubt of who the leaders of youth wing of CAN are, they are advised to visit the can secretariat or call Bishop Dami Mamza for clarification.

"CAN, under the leadership of Dami Mamza has never been swayed or influenced by material things in offering its consent or endorsement of anyone or group hence, the act of these fake youwin leaders proves that they have no relationship CAN, YOWICAN or Bishop Mamza."

The Christian body states that, "Bro. Godwin Joseph is the known and recognised leader of the YOWICAN in Adamawa state and if there was anything from the youth wing of CAN, he would have been the one to issue a press release to that effect.

"For the records, CAN or YOWICAN or any branches under it, as strong christian organisation guided by its chritian faith and by the law of the land, would not condescend so low to collect gifts in promise of political favours. 

"Christians and christian youths are not commodities in stock in the political market as they suggest, and christian youths do not merchandise with the trust that the people of Adamawa and Nigerians invested in it, so we will not toy with the trust our people have placed in us."

The Christian body said, "As the governorship elections are upon us on the 11th of March, 2023, we are calling on all christians across Adamawa to turn out en masse to their polling units to exercise their franchise and vote for the candidates of their choice.

"Your vote is your right to determine who leads you in the next four years. 

"All over Adamawa, we have all been victims in one way or the other. 

"In northern Adamawa, we were hard-hit by boko Haram insurgency and in the southern Adamawa, we were tormented by herdmen attacks and all over the state, we have been pummelled by ravaging floods. All these are motivations enough to go out there and vote.

"Because what we need is a responselive and people-driven government that knows and shares what we feel.
