Abuja – July 14, 2025
The Director General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nigeria’s former President, General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.), describing the late leader as a towering figure whose legacy of selfless service and integrity will endure for generations.
In a heartfelt condolence message personally signed and released late Sunday, Rt. Hon Yusuf Buba Yakub, the former lawmaker joined millions of Nigerians and the global community in mourning the passing of the former Head of State, who died at the age of 82 in London.
Buba Yakub reflected on the life and contributions of the late President, noting that he served the nation with unwavering dedication as a soldier, statesman, and a committed nationalist.
"The entire nation is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of a man who gave his all to Nigeria as a soldier, a politician, a mentor to many, and above all, a patriotic leader who placed national interest above self," he said.
Extending his sympathies to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Buhari family, and all Nigerians, Buba Yakub praised the late President’s incorruptible character and altruistic approach to public service, stressing that these values will forever resonate in the hearts of citizens and in the annals of Nigeria’s history.
“On behalf of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) and its management, I convey our heartfelt condolences to the family, government, and good people of Nigeria under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari,” he stated.
“While we mourn this great soldier, nationalist, and leader, we also celebrate his dedication to democracy, regional stability, national unity, and an uncompromising stand against corruption, values that endeared him to countless Nigerians at home and abroad.”
The NTAC Director General offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the former president’s soul.
“May Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljana Firdausi. May He also give the family, friends, and indeed all Nigerians the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss."
Born in Daura, Katsina State in 1942, Muhammadu Buhari’s illustrious public life spanned multiple decades and roles, including service as a military Head of State, Federal Commissioner of Petroleum, Military Governor of the defunct North-Eastern State, and Executive Chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF). In 2015, he became Nigeria’s democratically elected President, a position he held for eight years until 2023.
A man widely revered for his ascetic lifestyle and principled leadership, Buhari’s legacy will be remembered more for the enduring ideals he stood for than for personal accolades or privileges.
“He will be remembered more by the principles he espoused in leadership than the monuments he built for self, kith or kin,” the statement concluded.
