Daily Rendezvous YOLA
Eminent Nigerians from across the country gathered in Yola for the burial of the late Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu Mustapha, who served as the head of the Service between 1999 and 2003. He passed away in Abuja after a brief illness.

Among the dignitaries in attendance was the current Comptroller General of Customs and President of the World Customs Organization, Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (MFR).

In a condolence message delivered during the ceremony, Adeniyi described the late Mustapha as a visionary leader who served the Customs Service with distinction. He noted that Mustapha’s tenure was marked by reforms, dedication, and a “grand style of leadership that blended discipline with a human face.”

“The Nigeria Customs Service, and indeed Adamawa State, have lost a rare gem. He was a workaholic officer who gave his all for the growth of the Service,” Adeniyi said, while praying for Allah to grant the departed eternal rest in Aljannah Firdausi.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State also paid glowing tributes to the late Customs boss. In his message of condolence to the Aliyu Mustapha family and the Adamawa Emirate Council, the governor described Mustapha as a reformist whose service years left a lasting imprint on the Customs Service.

“The state has lost a distinguished son who dedicated his life to national service,” Fintiri said, praying for Allah’s mercy on the deceased.

In his remarks, the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Dr. Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, expressed the deep sense of loss felt by the Emirate. He described the late Ahmad Aliyu Mustapha as a trusted confidant and invaluable member of the Emirate Council.

“The Emirate has indeed lost a highly valuable figure who was always sought after in times of complex issues,” the Lamido said.

The funeral prayer (Janaiza) and burial were held in Yola, attended by family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers who came to pay their last respects.
