Daily Rendezvous Abuja, August 15, 2025 The lingering leadership tussle in the Labour Party took a decisive turn on Friday as the Federal High Court, Abuja, declared that the tenure of Julius Abure as National Chairman of the party expired on June 8, 2024. Delivering judgment in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1523/2025, the court dismissed Abure’s case against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), affirming the commission’s position that his purported leadership and the controversial Nnewi convention of March 27, 2024, were illegal and inconsistent with both the Electoral Act and INEC’s guidelines. The ruling, which aligns with an earlier Supreme Court decision delivered on April 4, 2025, effectively nullifies Abure’s claim to the party’s top seat and affirms INEC’s rejection of his National Executive Committee (NEC). In reaction, Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, welcomed the judgment, describing it as a “clear and authoritative affi...
