Fintiri Set Declare Free, Compulsory Education in Adamawa

Billy The Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has reeled out series of strong institutional reforms in the state aimed at addressing the deplorable state of education and curbing the notorious security and crime situation in the state. Among the reforms initiated by the Fintiri led government is the immediate commencement of free school feeding programme in nine secondary schools within the state capital with a view to implement the project in about fifty eight boarding secondary schools in the state at the resumption of the new school calendar year, September, 2019. This was made known at a press briefing, Friday, by the Director General, Media and Communications to the Governor, Solomon Kumangar, in Yola, Adamawa state. Billy The convener of "Project774forAtiku," and originator of the "Deservation" concept, Sani Adamu, has aimed a dig at INEC saying the electoral umpire is dragging Nigeria towards a path similar to conundrum of Abiola's June 12 elections annulment as a result of its frantic attempt at denying that it electronically used servers capture and store the 2019 general elections. Busted: Quack Doctor Performs Surgery On 45 People, Kills 15 By Billy Graham Abel Yola The Adamawa state governor, Umaru Fintiri, is poised to launch a major crack down on quack medical practitioners in Adamawa, after investigations by his government uncovered a fake doctor with only a national board for technical education certificate has been practicing as a medical doctor in the state and that he has performed surgeries on about 45 patients and killed about fifteen people in the process. Crime: 3 twelve Year Old Boys, Among 151 Criminal Gang Members Arrested by Police in Adamawa

Billy The Adamawa state police command has in a clamp down operation arrested about 151 criminal gang members including three twelve year old boys, suspected to the criminal elements terrorising members of Adamawa communities. The police in its briefing said they arrested about eighty six Kidnappers and about sixty five members of the 'shila' criminal gang notorious for phone theft and harassment of members of the public. This was made known at a press briefing Wednesday, in Yola, Adamawa state. Among the one hundred and fifty one members of the gang paraded are three twelve year old boys and the oldest among the suspects paraded are four adults aged forty. Security: 18 Killed As Gunmen Terrorise Community

Billy At least eighteen people have been  killed in Taraba state as armed tribal militias and suspected Fulani herdsmen continue to unleash terror on Taraba communities. Members of a tribal militia in the early hours of Monday were said to have ambushed and killed seven people fleeing Jukun-Tiv clash around the Wukari-Donga area. A security oeprative who saw the dead bodies at burial confirmed that seven corpses were recovered and buried. However, the Taraba state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP David Misal, who confirmed the attack but said only one person was killed and the caretaker Chairman of Donga Local Government Council, Nashuka Ipeyen, also confirmed that indeed there was an attack the attack but also denied that seven people were killed. Fire Burns Down Girls School Solitary hostel block in Adamawa 

By Billy Graham Abel  A raging fire has burnt down a solitary hostel block of the Government Girls College, Mayo-Belwa, Adamawa State. The fire which is said to have started at around noon time is reported to have burnt down the entire hostel block leaving students with nowhere to go. News Rendezvous gathered that the school had last year lost one of the two hostel blocks in the school to a fire incident and that this fire incident is a straw that just broke the camel's back for the girls college. A resident of Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area, Aliyu Isah, told Rendezvous that, "The only hostel of the school has just been destroyed, it has been burnt down by fire. "We cannot determined the cause of the fire yet but we would assume it was electrical fault.  "It is sad because the students will now have to be sent home. "This is the only hostel block standing of the two hostel blocks in the school after a similarly fire incident destroyed the other one last y...

Environment: Fintiri Launches Campaign for Plant Four Million Trees in Four Years

Billy Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has launched the Adamawa Green Project (GAP) with the aim of planting four million trees in four years. Fintiri said his government is ready to support and implement efforts towards ending desertification and reversing the consistent desert encroachment in the state. Fintiri made the remarks Monday, at an event marking the 2019 World Desertification Day at government house in Yola, Adamawa state. UN Condemns Suicide Attack that Killed 30 Civilians in Borno l

Billy The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon, strongly condemns the multiple suicide bombings that claimed the lives of at least 30 civilians and injured more than 40 others on the evening of Sunday 16 June 2019. The attacks took place in the Mandarari community of Konduga Local Government Area, less than 40 kilometers away from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.  The series of attacks targeted civilians who were gathered in a sports viewing hall to watch a televised football match, as well as at a nearby cafe. Among the deceased is a community volunteer who was contributing to the humanitarian response in north-east Nigeria. Dedan Emerges NUJ Chair

Billy ABC reporter, Ishaka Donald Dedan, has emerged as the chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalist, having polled sixty eight votes to defeat his closest challenger, Kate Aliyuda, of the ATV. In the other elective position, Fidelis Jocthan of the FRCN defeated his only challenger, Emmanuel Njapiri, polling eighty five votes to emerge winner in the contest. Other officials were returned unopposed are Abdullahi Muhammed as vice Chairnan (ATV), Felicia Dauda Amos (APL) as treasurer, Mary Adamu (NTA) financial secretary, Isa Tukur (ABC) as assistant secretary and Shekarau Yerima (GOTEL) as auditor. The union has been grappling with challenges to finding development and progress and many of the aspirants have rolled out plans for the NUJ. It remains to be seen how the new set of executives would navigate the challenges of the union and revamp ailing situation.
