NTAC DG Applauds Tinubu Over Landmark Technical Aid Pact with Saint Lucia
Daily Rendezvous
The Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the successful signing of a landmark Technical Manpower Assistance agreement with the government of Saint Lucia.
Describing the development as a “milestone achievement,” Buba Yakub said the agreement was a direct result of President Tinubu's foreign policy thrust aimed at extending Nigeria’s technical diplomacy across the Caribbean, particularly through partnerships with member states of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
The agreement, signed on July 2, 2025, in Castries, the capital of Saint Lucia, marks a significant step in Nigeria’s renewed commitment to South-South cooperation and the global African diaspora. The NTAC Director-General represented Nigeria at the ceremony, while the Acting Permanent Secretary of Saint Lucia's Ministry of External Affairs, International Trade, Civil Aviation and Diaspora Affairs, Janelle Modeste-Stephen, signed on behalf of the Caribbean nation.
Under the terms of the agreement, Nigerian professionals—ranging from teachers and medical experts to agriculturists and other specialists—will be deployed to Saint Lucia to serve for a two-year period. The initiative aims to support development efforts in the host country while strengthening cultural and historical ties with the African diaspora.
Key Provisions of the Agreement Include:
- Deployment of Nigerian Experts: Selected Nigerian professionals will contribute their skills in various sectors of Saint Lucian society for two years.
- Strategic Alignment: The programme aligns with President Tinubu’s broader diplomatic agenda to strengthen regional and bilateral cooperation.
- Shared Responsibility: Nigeria will fund allowances and provide logistical support for volunteers, while Saint Lucia will offer accommodation and in-country assistance.
Speaking on the development, DG Buba Yakub stated:
“This landmark agreement is a testament to President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment
